Carpe Diem
Carlos Mamonde

abre la ventana, mira allí la cara
desguarnecida
de la intemperie feroz,

y los años que nos llueven sin hiato

¡cuánto se alegra el mal, tras la ventana,
afilando su espina donde sabe
mientras nuestro amor exhausto corre y
corre hacia un campo donde
el invierno
bautiza
con la muerte!

yo, pequeño, en silencio, hermano mío,
recuerdo tu risa
dibujar un niño que no toca el espanto.

Carpe Diem

open the window, see there the
unguarded face
of the ferocious storm,

and the years that rain on us without pause

evil is so delighted, beyond the window,
sharpening his thorn he knows where
while our exhausted love runs and
runs toward a field where
winter
baptizes
with death!

I, small, in silence, my brother,
remember your laughter
painting a child untouched by fright.
